Your SSI Dive Instructor Course in Bali
A look at the teaching, mentoring, in-water development and extended pathway training behind the instructor programs.
Why Train with Project Laut?
Project Laut’s instructor training is built to develop capable working instructors, not just candidates who can pass an evaluation. Our focus is on teaching control, demonstration quality, professional judgment and clear development pathways after the core ITC.

Led by 2 SSI Instructor Trainers
Candidates receive direct coaching from two SSI Instructor Trainers throughout their development, including guidance on teaching presentations, in-water control, skill demonstrations and professional standards.

Develop Skills in Neutral Trim
We place strong emphasis on neutral-buoyancy skill development, helping candidates improve positioning, control and demonstration quality before they begin teaching independently.

Prepare to Teach, Not Just Pass
The Instructor Evaluation matters, but the goal is bigger than passing. Candidates are trained to brief clearly, demonstrate confidently, and manage students in real-world conditions.

Continue Beyond the SSI ITC
After the 14-day Fast Track, candidates can continue into professional progression, ecology instructor development or technical-diving foundations depending on their career goals.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is included in Project Laut’s SSI Instructor Training Course in Bali?
Project Laut’s Fast Track to Teach includes the complete SSI Instructor Training Course, Instructor Evaluation, Instructor Evaluation fees, SSI digital learning materials, training with two SSI Instructor Trainers, and a Project Laut T-shirt. It is designed as a focused 14-day dive instructor course in Bali for active SSI or PADI Divemasters who are ready to progress into professional teaching.
The program is built around more than simply completing the minimum course requirements. Candidates receive coaching on academic teaching presentations, confined-water and open-water teaching, demonstration-quality skills, student control, briefing structure, debriefing, and professional teaching standards.
What is the difference between Fast Track to Teach and the Extended Instructor Development pathways?
Fast Track to Teach is the focused 14-day SSI Instructor Training Course in Bali. It is the core pathway for active Divemasters who want to complete their ITC, pass the Instructor Evaluation, and become SSI Open Water Diving Instructors.
The extended instructor development pathways include the full Fast Track program, then continue into additional development. The Divemaster Instructor Pathway adds extra Instructor Specialty ratings and course shadowing. The Eco-Instructor pathway adds six weeks of conservation, ecology training, and Ecology Instructor certifications. The Instructor + Technical Foundations pathway adds sidemount, decompression, wreck, technical planning, and Deep Diving Instructor development.
Do I need to be a Divemaster before joining this SSI Dive Instructor Course in Bali?
Yes. This SSI Dive Instructor Course in Bali is designed for candidates who are already active-status Divemasters and meet the required professional prerequisites. Candidates also need the required logged dives, appropriate medical clearance, and the necessary first-aid/rescue background before certification as an SSI Open Water Diving Instructor.
Eligible active-status PADI Divemasters can also join the SSI instructor pathway without repeating their Divemaster course but by paying the SSI professional activation fee. This makes the program suitable for both SSI and PADI Divemasters who are ready to progress into instructor training.
What makes Project Laut Different From A Standard Instructor Development Course in Bali?
Project Laut’s instructor training focuses on developing capable working instructors, not just candidates who can pass an evaluation. Training is led by two SSI Instructor Trainers and places strong emphasis on teaching control, demonstration quality, professional judgment, and neutral-buoyancy skill development.
The page also gives candidates multiple ways to build beyond the core instructor course. Instead of offering only a standard instructor development course in Bali, Project Laut allows candidates to continue into professional progression, marine ecology, conservation teaching, or technical-diving foundations depending on their goals.
Will this Scuba Instructor Course in Bali prepare me well for real teaching, not just the evaluation?
Yes. The Instructor Evaluation is important, but the goal is to prepare candidates to teach real students confidently after certification. The training focuses on practical teaching ability, including academic presentations, student briefings, skill demonstrations, water control, problem management, debriefing, and professional communication.
Project Laut’s approach is especially focused on helping candidates become comfortable in the role of an instructor. Candidates are coached to demonstrate skills clearly, maintain control in the water, manage students calmly, and teach in a way that feels organized, professional, and realistic.
What does the Eco-Instructor pathway add to the Core SSI Instructor Training Course in Bali?
The Eco-Instructor pathway includes the complete 14-day Fast Track to Teach program, followed by six additional weeks with Project Laut. During this time, candidates participate in Project Laut’s conservation activities while developing a stronger foundation in marine ecology, environmental education, and conservation-focused dive training.
This pathway includes Instructor-level ecology certifications in Sea Turtle Ecology, Coral Identification, Fish Identification, Shark Ecology, Manta & Ray Ecology, and Marine Ecology. Candidates also receive student-level Coral Reef Restoration training and gain practical exposure to Project Laut’s ongoing coral restoration, turtle photo-identification, and fish survey work.
What does the Divemaster Instructor Pathway add to the core SSI Instructor Training Course in Bali?
The Divemaster Instructor Pathway is designed for candidates who want to expand their teaching qualifications beyond the standard Open Water Diving Instructor rating. It includes the complete Fast Track to Teach program, followed by two additional weeks of course shadowing and Instructor Specialty certifications in Deep Diving, Navigation, Night & Limited Visibility, and React Right.
This pathway is useful for candidates who want broader teaching credentials, more practical course exposure, and a stronger professional profile after the ITC. It also supports progression to the SSI Divemaster Instructor recognition level, which forms part of the longer professional pathway toward Assistant Instructor Trainer and eventually Instructor Trainer.
What does the Instructor + Technical Foundations pathway include?
The Instructor + Technical Foundations pathway combines the full SSI Instructor Training Course with additional development in equipment configuration, sidemount diving, decompression theory, technical dive planning, drift-decompression procedures, and wreck diving. It is designed for candidates who want to become dive instructors while also building a stronger foundation in technical-style diving.
The pathway includes recreational-level certifications in Sidemount Diving, Decompression Diving, and Wreck Diving, as well as Deep Diving Instructor certification. It also includes a three-day training trip to Tulamben for wreck and decompression-focused dives. This pathway does not certify candidates as technical instructors, but it provides valuable technical foundations alongside the instructor course.
Can I add specialty instructor ratings after the core SSI Instructor Course?
Yes. Qualified instructors can add SSI Instructor Specialty ratings after completing the core instructor course through focused specialty seminars. These seminars are useful for instructors who want to expand the range of SSI program they are qualified to teach without joining a full extended pathway.
Project Laut can also help build a custom instructor development pathway based on your current qualifications and goals. This may include recreational specialty instructor ratings, ecology instructor development, technical-diving training, course shadowing, or professional progression planning.
Is the Instructor Evaluation included in the SSI Instructor Training Course price?
Yes. The Instructor Evaluation fee is included in Project Laut’s Fast Track to Teach and extended instructor development pathways. This makes the course pricing more transparent, because candidates do not need to calculate the core Instructor Evaluation fee separately from the advertised dive instructor course price.
The dive instructor course in Bali also includes SSI digital learning materials and direct training with Project Laut’s Instructor Trainers. Accommodation, flights, visas, personal dive equipment, meals, and personal living expenses are not included unless specifically arranged separately.
Is accommodation included in the dive instructor course in Bali?
Accommodation is not included in the standard course price. This keeps the program flexible for candidates who want to choose their own budget, comfort level, location, or length of stay in Nusa Penida.
Project Laut can still help candidates understand common accommodation options, local transport, arrival timing, and general living costs on the island. Most candidates arrange accommodation nearby and arrive before the course begins so they are settled before training starts.
Can I work as a dive instructor after completing this course in Bali?
After successful completion of the Instructor Evaluation and all required SSI professional steps, candidates can qualify as SSI Open Water Diving Instructors. This allows graduates to begin working professionally as dive instructors, subject to active teaching status, insurance or membership requirements, employer requirements, and local work regulations.
The course prepares candidates for the teaching side of the profession, but legal employment depends on the country, dive centre, visa, and work permit rules. For candidates hoping to work after the course, the extended pathways can help build a stronger profile by adding specialty ratings, practical shadowing, ecology credentials, or technical-diving experience.
